The Storyville Collective presents the New Orleans premiere of the Tony-nominated play, HAND TO GOD.
Following their inaugural production of Reefer Madness, The Musical and its split run at Café Istanbul and Rivertown Theatre, The Storyville Collective will present its next production, Robert Askins’ Hand to God at The Theatre at St. Claude, April 6-29, 2017. Hand to God, which has been described as “Avenue Q meets The Exorcist,” features Michael Harkins, Kyle Woods, Meredith Owens, Andrea Watson and John Fitzpatrick as Jason, an introverted teen, and Tyrone, his possessed puppet. The production will be directed by artistic director Michael McKelvey.
After the death of his father, meek Jason finds an outlet for his anxiety at the Christian Puppet Ministry, in the devoutly religious, relatively quiet small town of Cypress, Texas. Jason’s complicated relationships with the town pastor, the school bully, the girl next door, and—most especially—his mother are thrown into upheaval when Jason’s puppet, Tyrone, takes on a shocking and dangerously irreverent personality all its own. HAND TO GOD explores the startlingly fragile nature of faith, morality, and the ties that bind us.
